I can’t even begin to count the number of times that i have been burned by an SEO company that promised great results returning with nothing to show for the money that I paid. At least, not in any meaningful way. When you’re paying something like $500 a year for search engine optimization services, you really should get more for your money instead of a couple of keywords that have been brought up to top 20 ranking. That’s not the kind of service I want.

I have been posting my music to the Reverbnation website for a couple of years. I was slowly gaining fans, but my numbers were still bleak compared to others who started posting just recently. Some of the songs that I listened to were not that good either, at least not compared to what I do, and I knew that I had to do something different to get more fans and plays on the site. I make no money off of the people who read it, but I do make money from the advertisers who post on my blog page. Popularity Contest Now On DatPiffI was sitting in the library today when this guy came up. I did not know who he was, but he knew me. I had been working for a guy who emcees parties around here. He wanted to buy datpiff views and promote his mix tapes, but he needed to have a cover to go on his mix tape. It was a simple job. I did it in about an hour and a half without any difficulty. I charged the guy very little. In fact he gave me thirty bucks and a twelve pack of craft beer. He tried to argue that Pabst Blue Ribbon was a craft beer, but that was not our deal and I got him to get me a 12 pack of some really great India Pale Ale from the grocery store on Walker Avenue, they have a huge selection of really good beer on sale there.

Corporations on Social Media: Great for Consumers?

These days, companies really can’t afford not to have a social media presence. At least, that’s what they say, so I went looking to see whether I could find companies who had one. Did you know that LinkedIn has a Facebook page? That impressed me in a strange way. And of course, I was able to find behemoths like Walmart, category killers like Walgreens, and consultancies like mandrien on twitter.

Personally, I like that they’re all there. Not so much because, hey, I have a Facebook page or a Twitter account and this makes those companies Just Like Me. No, more because this means they care enough that if I wanted to talk to them, or even just was bothered enough by their service, or their competitors’, I feel like they would make a point of noticing my complaint or my interest.

It’s like complaining about a business on Yelp, but you often get even faster response times, from what I hear. For example, a friend of mine had some issue with a Walgreens pharmacy in her city. They must have had one of their customers’ phone numbers wrong, because they kept calling her whenever that other person’s prescription was ready. She doesn’t take any medication regularly, so this eventually got her annoyed enough that she mentioned it in a Tweet. Not one to Walgreens (she didn’t even know they were on Twitter), just one to her friends.

She told me that the company’s Twitter account sent her a Tweet within about 10 minutes and had the problem fixed for her later that day. It’s not remotely possible that that would happen just by writing a company anymore, is it? I don’t believe so. Heck, I was impressed that it happened at all.

If that’s the brave new frontier that companies are willing to broach when they come to Twitter and Facebook and other places that their customers hang out, I think it’s a great thing. We all deserve customer service like that, and I like to think that companies will only come to socialize with us this way if they’re prepared to give it!

has started marketing a high-speed Internet service called AT&T Business Fiber in multitenant office buildings in San Diego. The carrier said that the new component of its U-verse service offers speeds up to 300 megabits per second, on uploads and downloads. Those speeds allow for advanced services such as large-scale data backup or videoconferencing. AT&T (NYSE: T) said it plans to eventually offer service at 1 gigabit per second. AT&T has already introduced its Business Fiber service to 18 other markets. It said the service is not yet available for all building locations in San Diego. Dallas-based AT&T reported revenue of $128.8 billion in 2013 and has not yet reported its 2014 financial results.

Marketing Smoke and Mirrors: Phone Call Still an Important Factor for Both Men and Women – Yahoo Finance

This new research sheds light on breaking some of the gender myths around the purchase process especially when a phone call is involved. Female consumers feel more confident about using the phone as part of their customer journey than their male counterparts, compared to purely transacting online. Nearly four in five (79%) of women said that speaking to a well informed person on the end of the line that solves their problem was the most important thing about calling a company. When it comes to speed and efficiency, just over one third (34%) of all respondents asked said that a well informed agent would make them more likely to purchase. Alongside this, 33% of men said they would be inclined to make a decision faster, showing that males value the fact that a phone call can be a quick and easy way to solve an issue – and lead to a swifter sale. When it comes to using internet search data to start a conversation with a consumer where they left off online, men feel more comfortable than women with brands having access to information. Over a quarter (26%) of men asked, said that it wouldn’t matter to them if the conversation was picked up from this point; however, 58% of women said that they would rather this was not the case. “In the battle of the sexes, there is a misconception that women tend to rely on the phone more than men, however our research shows that men gain just as much value from the phone call, just in different ways. Neither gender avoids them – and the majority of both sexes find a call extremely useful during the customer journey,” explains Bhavesh Vaghela, Chief Marketing Officer for ResponseTap. The e-commerce giant said its investment in AdChina, an online advertising firm, makes Alibaba a majority shareholder in the company. Alibaba didn’t disclose the size of the investment it would take in Shanghai-based AdChina. AdChina will work with Alibaba’s online marketing technology platform, Alimama, to develop a digital platform that provides marketing services to businesses, online media clients and third-party service providers, Alibaba said in a statement. Alibaba had made a strategic investment in AdChina, it said in a statement, without giving the amount. An Alibaba spokeswoman said financial details were not disclosed. Alibaba, which listed on the New York Stock Exchange last year, said the deal would allow the company to grow its online and mobile marketing “ecosystem”. The two companies will also develop online marketing services and data marketing products for businesses, media clients and third-party service providers, the statement said. Alibaba is often described as the Chinese version of eBay, and like the US company has its own payments system. It has no product stocks itself, instead connecting buyers and sellers.
